Biography
Sayda Gomri has drawn all her life, and in 1976 she won a fashion-drawing competition in Tunis. Her professional path then took her elsewhere: twelve years at the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), then the Boulogne-Billancourt gerontology centre. Drawing never quite left her.
She returned to painting on retirement, first through the drawing and painting classes of the Club Senior Rose-Bénart, then alongside Madame Olga at the La Chouette association. She exhibited for the first time in 2024. In 2025 she joined the Artistik studio in Boulogne-Billancourt, where she took up other techniques with Manal and Paco, and in 2025-2026 worked under the guidance of Madame Roula Bechara, a painter in Boulogne-Billancourt.
She began with landscapes drawn from her travels and from places that matter to her — Mont-Saint-Michel among the first. Her work then narrowed onto the arabesque and Tunisian architectural heritage, where she found her subject.
She paints in oil and acrylic on canvas, and draws in pencil. Her work falls into three groups: landscapes, arabesques and portraits.
